Ryder Stone is a bad boy, and good girl Kylie wants him so much. When a desperate attempt to catch his attention backfires, Kylie finds herself under a roughly possessive Ryder as he fulfills her deepest fantasies without any protection.
Ryder has tried to do the right thing and stay away from his tempting young neighbor. When she provokes a response, he takes Kylie with all the pent-up passion he’s felt for her the past eighteen months. She belongs to him, and a baby bump is just one more way to stake his claim.
This is a QuikRead and the perfect length to finish during the morning commute or while waiting for an appointment. No cliffhangers!
“I saw you.” Kylie licked her lips after uttering the words to the rough-edged man her father had warned her was bad news and trouble. He spoke about the sheriff being likely to haul him in at any moment, though there had never been even a hint that he was involved with anything criminal. He was tattooed and drove a motorcycle, which was enough to make him stand out and appear to be a hoodlum to the small-minded people of their small town.
Ryder Stone barely even glanced up from the wrench he was polishing with a shop rag. “Saw me do what, Kylie?”
She took another step toward her neighbor, body humming with nerves and a hint of anticipation as she entered the recesses of his garage. “I saw you with Maddy Caldwell.”
He did look up briefly. “So?”
Kylie scowled. “You don’t think that’s a mistake?”
“I’ve been making mistakes since before you were born, little girl. Maddy’s an adult.”
Kylie sighed. “You think Sheriff Caldwell will care about that? I know he hassles you ‘cause you ride a motorcycle and have tattoos and stuff.” Stuff like bulging muscles, too-tight jeans that showed the perfect shape of his taut buttocks, and a few days’ worth of dark stubble along his jaw line that added to his dangerous look. “So imagine how he’ll react if you’re doing something he really doesn’t like, such as dating his daughter.”
Ryder snorted. “Honey, we aren’t dating.”
She frowned, though her heart leapt with relief. “But I saw you kissing her this morning at your back door.”
He looked up from the tools arranged neatly on his work bench. “You can’t be that naïve, Kylie. You don’t have to be in a relationship to fuck someone.”
She flinched at the word and the image that came to mind of her sexy neighbor thrusting into the writhing body of Maddy Caldwell. The girl was probably a screamer. She had been when she was head cheerleader her senior year, when Kylie was a freshman. She’d always been so enthusiastic on the football field and was probably equally vigorous during sex.
She clamped her lips. “Fine, but do you think the sheriff will be okay with you having a friends-with-benefits arrangement with his daughter, even if she is twenty-one?”
Ryder lifted a massive shoulder. “For one thing, it was a one-time thing, and for another, how will he find out?”
“Someone might tell him.”
He rolled his eyes. “Maddy sure isn’t going to tell her daddy who she’s fucking, or that she was hanging out at Clayton’s Bar last night. The clientele there who might have been sober enough to notice we left together isn’t going to run to the sheriff. So who would tell him?”
Taking a deep breath for courage, reminding herself this was her last desperate act to get his attention, she said, “I might.” He dropped the wrench in his hand and looked at her. The full weight of his attention pressed down on her, and his scowl burned hot enough to melt her skin.
“What the fuck are you talking about, Kylie?”
Licking her lips again, she clenched her fists. “I could tell him.” Another deep breath gave her a bit more courage. “I mean I will tell him unless…”
He frowned. “Unless what?”
“Unless you give me what you gave Maddy this morning.” Her body thrummed with desire when she remembered the openmouthed kiss the two had shared, and the way Maddy had slumped against the older man as though unable to stand upright after he’d ravaged her mouth.
Ryder’s eyes widened, but then he laughed. “Very funny. Quit fucking around and run on home, little girl.”
She squared her shoulders. “I’m not a little girl, Ryder. I’ve been an adult for seven months.”
“And you’ve been panting after me since you first got boobs.” At her flinch, he smirked. “Yeah, I know you have a thing for me, baby, but you’re too young. You’ve been too young the whole time I’ve known you.”
She firmed her mouth, angry and embarrassed by his dismissal. She was also humiliated that he knew about her crush. All those times she’d watched him and tried to subtly flirt with him, she had assumed she’d been doing something wrong and hadn’t made her interest plain. To discover he’d known and ignored it, either because he was amused or didn’t want her, angered her.
“Fine. I’ll call Sheriff Caldwell. I looked up his number before I came over.” She dug her phone out of her pocket. The sheriff’s number was programmed into it, but it was a precautionary measure her dad had insisted on when giving her the expensive cell phone months ago. She hadn’t actually intended to call the sheriff to rat out Maddy and Ryder, but she was boiling with ire at his callous rejection.
She’d barely unlocked the screen before he was standing directly in front of her. In seconds, he’d snatched the phone from her hand and tossed it across the garage. She yelped with outrage when it landed with a cracking sound. “That phone was practically new. I got it for my eighteenth birthday.”
“I don’t give a fuck.” Ryder towered over her, glaring down. “You really want to play these games, babe?”
For a second, she wavered, thinking it would be much safer and more sensible to go back to her house, hide in her room, and try to pretend this had never happened. She’d just avoid the bad boy neighbor. How hard could that be?
Firming her chin, she glared back. “I’m not playing. If you aren’t interested, fine, but you don’t have to be an asshole about it.”
He took another step. “Not interested?” His hot gaze raked her from the top of her head of black curls down to her pink-tipped toes displayed in white sandals. His scorching visual touch probably could have burned away the baby doll sundress she wore if he’d stared at it a microsecond longer. “I’m plenty fucking interested.”
As he took another step toward her, Kylie’s courage deserted her, and she took a step back. He followed, forcing her another step backward. “No, you aren’t. You’re just teasing me.”
Ryder reached forward to grab her breast, squeezing a little rougher than necessary, but in a way that made her moan. “I don’t tease, and I don’t play games. I’m not a fucking teenage girl. What I am is a thirty-year-old guy trying to do the right thing.”
She kept walking backward, and he kept pace. “Well, let’s just forget everything then.” What kind of idiot was she that she’d thought she could handle this primal male? Kylie acknowledged she had been out of her mind and was now in over her head as he reached up and behind her to pull down the opened garage door.
“No way, babe. You wanted some of what Maddy got, and I’m going to give it to you.”
“I think I’ve changed my mind.” Her eyes widened as his body pressed hers against the panels of the door, his hands on either side of her head.
