Excerpt:

She renewed her efforts to squirm away as his head started downward, but he wasn’t heading for her breasts. Maybe it would’ve been too awkward of an angle with the way he had her wrists pinned above her head. Instead, his mouth landed on hers at the last second.

She gasped in outrage, which gave him an opening to press his tongue between the seam of her lips and squirm his way into her mouth. She was so angry at the violation that she simply reacted. Her teeth came together, and she grimaced at the sensation of his tongue squirming between her teeth when she bit down.

Cutter reacted quickly, releasing her wrists and grabbing her ponytail instead. He jerked her head back viciously, forcing her to release him. He glared down at her, breathing heavily. Blood trickled from his mouth, and she wasn’t surprised. The coppery taste still lingered on her tongue.

“What’s your name?”

She clamped her lips shut, alarmed by the intensity of his gaze. There was something different now, something that had shifted in his eyes and his expression. His body language was different too. Tentatively, she identified it as him previously being bored and just groping her for something to do, because she was there.

Now, it was like a switch had flipped. He was focused on her, to the point where she squirmed under his gaze. She’d been invisible to him for years, but from the way his eyes gleamed, she had a feeling he was suddenly seeing her. She shuddered at the thought, realizing it wasn’t a good thing. As bad as it was to be the unseen girl who drifted through school with no one noticing, it was even worse to have someone like Cutter Kingwood see her.

“Who the fuck are you?” He was glaring at her.

She refused to answer, turning her head to spit out the coppery taste lingering in her mouth instead.

“Her name is Liv or something,” said Haden. “We have English together, I think.”

She licked her lips as Cutter lifted a hand to wipe his mouth. He stuck out his tongue, dabbing at it with his fingertips for a moment. It was bleeding enough to be visible, but it wasn’t pouring blood. He was likely to survive the injury. Unfortunately.

She wasn’t so certain she would survive having injured him though. His body shifted again, pinning her even tighter to the fence. He hadn’t released his hold on her hair, and now he wrapped the ponytail around his hand several times before he jerked even harder, until her scalp tingled with pain, and her neck hurt from the angle. She refused to beg or ask him to let go though. She couldn’t show weakness. He would be on her like a pack of wolves if she did.

“Liv, you’re kind of a savage bitch, aren’t you?” Oddly, he didn’t seem angry. Instead, there was admiration in his gaze. “You fight for what you want, don’t you?” When she didn’t answer, he leaned closer, nuzzling her cheek with his nose before his lips grazed her jaw. “So do I. When I find something I want, I take it.”

She turned her head away from him, wanting to avoid his kiss. She didn’t like the way he was imposing on her space, and she definitely didn’t like the way her stomach was fluttering in a not entirely unpleasant way. “I’m not surprised you’re like that, but I’m not. Just let me go.”

“When I’m ready, and when I’m done with you, you can do whatever you want. I’ll forgot all about you five seconds after you walk away.”

Despite his words, he didn’t seem all that convincing. He lacked conviction, and she stared into his eyes for another moment, neither of them speaking. She was oddly confident that was how it had always been for him, but it wasn’t going to be so simple this time.

She didn’t like that he wouldn’t forget about her as soon as she walked away. That made her even more nervous, and her stomach clenched with nausea. “Mary-Alice will bring back help soon. You should go before you get caught.”

“Soon.” He trailed his finger from her chin down her neck and across her chest. His thumb flicked over one of her nipples again as he slid his fingers farther down, teasing her bellybutton.

The soft touch made her stomach muscles contract, and she tried to pull back to put more space between them, but she was already pushing against the sign as hard as she could. “What are you doing?”
